Kumaun University (Nainital)

Kumaun University (Nainital) was established in the year 1973 and has 3 campuses (at Nainital, Almora and Bhimtal). With 27 affiliated colleges under its wing, Kumaun University has a jurisdiction over the entire Kumaun region.

The university also has scientific and social research programmes along with the regular courses. With a total of 27 academic departments, Kumaun University offers 4 undergraduate and 23 postgraduate programmes to its students.

The current Vice-Chancellor of the University is Professor C.P. Barthwal, an internationally acclaimed academician who has over 38 years of experience of teaching, training, research, evaluation and administration.

The University aims at catering to the educational needs of the Uttaranchal region.

The university has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a Four Star owing to its excellent academic and infrastructural facilities.

A UGC-Academic Staff College at the University was sanctioned by the UGC, New Delhi in October 2006 and started functioning with immediate effect. In addition to conducting orientation programmes and refresher courses the ASC also undertakes a number of extension activities.
